Sainik Handloom – Kantha Stitch community
Since 2005, Sainik Handloom has been dedicated to empowering rural women artisans, giving them a stronger voice and greater autonomy over their lives. By enabling these skilled women to earn a livelihood through their craftsmanship, Sainik Handloom not only uplifts local communities but also showcases their talent on a global stage by exporting garments and home accessories worldwide.
At the heart of their work is Kantha, an ancient Bengali textile art renowned for its intricate stitch-work, vivid patterns, and profound cultural heritage. Over centuries, Kantha has been passed down through generations, with each artisan adding their own touch to this living tradition. At Sainik Handloom, this artistic legacy is honored and preserved through the creation of authentic, hand-stitched Kantha quilts, garments, accessories, and more.
Umesh Singh, the founder of Sainik Handloom, leads this community-driven initiative by personally sourcing high-quality materials directly from villages across India, particularly from the eastern regions known for their rich textile traditions. Through his passionate efforts, he not only ensures the authenticity and sustainability of each piece but also promotes awareness and appreciation for this remarkable craft. Today, Sainik Handloom empowers hundreds of women artisans, providing them with meaningful opportunities and helping to keep the spirit of Kantha alive for future generations.
