Legacy Support: Honouring Anne Lavene

The Souk UK is proud to continue the legacy of Anne Lavene, a visionary creative entrepreneur and talented knitwear designer, following her passing on 15 September 2026.

Anne’s journey in fashion began after graduating from the Southend School of Fashion Design. In 1984, she founded The House of Lavene, a bespoke couture knitwear company that quickly garnered international acclaim. 

Renowned for her innovative approach, Anne was praised by textile designers and clients worldwide for bringing a new perspective to designer knitwear.

Under Anne’s guidance, The House of Lavene revolutionised machine-knitwear, making it accessible for both experienced craftspeople and complete beginners. Her pioneering Visual Patterns system—featuring 12 easy-to-follow single-bed home machine knitting patterns—empowers individuals to create beautiful, design-led garments and accessories using affordable domestic machines.

To support learners at every stage, SoukUK offers a selection of Anne’s garment pattern learning portfolios, available to download in PDF format free of charge from the online shopping area. These resources are designed for everyone, from those completely new to home machine knitting to seasoned experts.

In addition, Anne has left behind a series of free-to-watch YouTube videos where she personally demonstrates each visual knitting process. These videos provide a perfect starting point for anyone eager to learn, making the journey into home knitwear design accessible and enjoyable.

Today, Anne’s legacy continues through her son, Jason, who works alongside the SoukUK as a voluntary member-of the support team to share her passion and expertise. Together, they help others discover the joy of knitwear design and creation whether starting a home studio or making unique, handmade pieces for loved ones.
